Reverse Proof finish coin — LOWEST mintage of all SML COINS!!!!! Is a beautifully struck silver maple leaf with a special triple privy mark on the reverse. The Royal Canadian mint struck this coin in 2005 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War — May 5, 1945. To the right of the maple leaf stem there is written: ” 5-5-45 & VRIJHEID (liberation)” which symbolizes the day of the day of the Dutch liberation mostly by Canadian troops. To the left is the tulip – a symbol of the Netherlands and also the Dutch mint mark. My own mother was liberated that day and told the story of how the Canadian soldiers triumphantly rolled through the north of Holland. After the starvation of the “hunger winter” of 1944 the Allied soldiers gave them white bread and she said “it was like cake”….. Additionally, during the war the Dutch royalty was secreted away to Canada and lived here in safety. And to this day, each year the Dutch government gives a gift of gratitude to Canada of thousands of tulip bulbs. So it is fitting that the Canadian mint produced a coin to recognize this special relationship with the Netherlands. Like all SML’s this coin is a one ounce coin minted to the standard of 99.99% purity!! This coin is 38 mm in diameter and weighs 31.39 grams. The reverse of this coin shows the traditional maple leaf but this is a reverse proof coin so that means that the background is satin finish and the maple leaf and the words etc. Are in brilliant finish. The obverse of the coin carries the brilliant relief image of the Queen (by Susanna Blunt) against a satin background. It comes in its originally issued case and the cardboard sleeve surrounding it. The certificate of authenticity is also included. Note that the photos I post in my listings are all from my own inventory.
