Design of the Colorized Proof Silver Summer Storms Coin. The reverse of this new coin from the Royal Canadian Mint has a stunning reverse image of a rare double lightning strike! The mood of this image is well defined, and really seems to bring a storm to the coin. A lone white pine is shown blowing harshly in the gales, combining well will the highly detailed lightning strike above them to create the look of a fierce summer storm! The lightning and the pine are both colorized, bringing the overall attention to them. The landscape itself is very well detailed, and fits well with the stormy scene. A thin border runs around this design, and has the inscriptions OF CANADA and 20 DOLLARS 2015. The majestic image was created by Tony Bianco and Arnold Nogy, and their initials can be seen on their design. Natures fury is enhanced even more in this impressive image: The detailed lightning arcing across the sky has been made to glow vibrantly when placed under a black-light! The artists have done this using innovative technology, and it makes the lightning appear to glow with energy. This use of a black-light to illuminate the special glow on the design is a first in coin history! On the obverse of this Canadian coin is an intricate portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is the design of Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, that has been used on the obverse of Canadian coins since 2003. The inscriptions ELIZABETH II and D. REGINA border this design. The first coin in the new Weather Phenomenon series, this coin is packed with intricate details and new features! With a special glow on the lightning that can only be seen when under a blacklight, this coin makes coin history as the first coin to have such a feature.
