Superman Unchained #2 Silver Coin. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this breathtaking scene of Superman’s super-human strength is brought to life in color on this one troy ounce. 9999 fine silver coin. This is one of the six variant covers found on the issue; this particular scene shows Superman&tm; battling a corrupt and covert military force, lifting a tank over his head. Surrounding the scene is a series of concentric circles which add depth and focus to the design on the coin. This coin is one of three in a set of silver coins featuring Superman in a newly revamped series of comic books. The other two coins feature equally outstanding designs with colored features over back drops that are iconic of the adventures of Superman. Superman was developed in 1933 as a superhuman being from the planet Krypton who is the last of his kind. Launched into space as a toddler by his parents just prior to the total destruction of the planet, he lands in a field in Kansas and is rescued and raised by the land owner and his wife. Given the name of Clark Kent, the young boy is taught to harness his powers for the good of the people, and lands a job as a roving reporter for the Metropolis newspaper, The Daily Planet. From his youth, Superman is taught to conceal his powers except when needed so he can lead a normal life and not be discovered by his nemeses, especially his most powerful villain nemesis, Lex Luthor, a crazed billionaire bent on destroying the superhero. He slips into cover to change into his uniform to do his good deed as Superman, then slips back into cover to change back into Clark Kent. Effectively, Superman seemingly shows up out of nowhere when he is needed, then quickly slips away after his deed is done. Young Clark Kent seems to always show up just at the wrong time to witness the Man of Steel while saving people and averting danger. No story line is complete without a damsel, and in this case it is Lois Lane, who is the subject of attraction for Clark Kent and is ironically smitten with Superman yet doesn’t realize they are one in the same. Superman collectibles have been a hot commodity since the first appearance of the character in 1938. In fact, a record price was recently paid for one of the very books in which he made his first public appearance. Canada has issued coins bearing Superman in the past, and they were very popular with collectors. This very limited production of new coins has a distinct possibility of following the same path, which would make them well worth adding to any superheroes collection! This fully licensed colorized. 9999 fine silver coin comes with the original Royal Canadian Mint packaging and certificate of authenticity, further solidifying this as an official issue of Canada and an official Superman collectible coin!
