Proof Silver WWI Canadian Homefront First Submarines Coin. The Royal Canadian Mint has released a 1 oz. Silver coin commemorating the first submarine of the Royal Canadian Navy, the CC-class submarine. This coin is the second release in the 4-coin series titled Canadian Homefront. The design on this coin is a breathtaking image of the CC-class submarine surging through the sea. The Royal Canadian Mint has a very limited mintage on this proof coin, and will only be producing 7,500. The CC-class submarine was the first class of submarine used by the Royal Canadian Navy. They were originally produced by a shipbuilding company in Seattle, Washington for the Chilean government. With a very lacking navy in a time of war, the government of Canada bought these 2 submarines from the company to better protect their ocean borders. This proof coin has been struck with 1 oz. This, combined with the fact that these coins have received a grade of PF70 from NGC, show that this is a very high quality coin that is flawless to the naked eye. Design of the Canadian Homefront – First Submarine Coin. Silver coin displays a majestic design of a surfaced CC-class Canadian submarine surging through the ocean along Canadas border. This design is actually quite splendid due to the innovative way they have engraved the entire submarine by showing the underwater and above water view of the sub. The water line used to transition the two views is extremely detailed, and is one of the best features on this design. Overlaying this design is an image of Canadas West coast that these 2 submarines patrolled during WWI. Shown under the surface of the water and below the submarine is the inscription CANADA 2015. On the reverse of this coin is a design very rarely seen on Canadian coins anymore – an effigy of His Majesty King George V. This design was created by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal and was used on currency at the time this submarine patrolled Canadian waters. The Royal Canadian Mint has made this engraving the obverse of this coin in order to honor the monarch of that period. Below the portrait of the King is the inscription 20 DOLLARS. A detailed, innovative design and high quality metal and minting processes have all combined in order to make this majestic coin. With a very limited mintage of only 7,500 coin, this coin will most likely sell out quickly. Order yours now before they are gone! Effigy of past Monarch, with inscriptions.
