The reverse design presents a reduced-scale replica of the illustrious hockey trophy, all in a magnificent reverse proof finish. Detailed engraving recreates the ringed appearance of the Cup’s rounded barrel base, topped by the silver bowl that replicates the one donated by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley. The finer details are enhanced by the application of different finishes that alter the way light reflects off the coin’s silver surface, thus infusing the innovative design with a life-like sense of depth and dimension. The Stanley Cup is made of a silver and nickel alloy; it measures 89.54 centimetres tall and weighs 15.5 kilograms. It was retired in 1970 but remains on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. The bowl had an initial base ring; by 1902, there was no room left to engrave the winning team’s name. Teams then began engraving their names on the bowl itselfincluding the 1906-07 Montreal Wanderers, who were the first to inscribe their name inside the bowl and the first to engrave their full roster. Today, there is a limit of 52 engraved names from each winning team. Some player and even team names appear misspelled on the Cup, including the 1980-81 New York “Ilanders” and the 1971-72 “Bqstqn” Bruins. Henri Richard’s name appears a record 11 times on the Cup as a player, while Scotty Bowman appears nine times as a coach; team-wise, the Montreal Canadiens hold the record with 24 Stanley Cup wins, including a record five in a row between 1956 and 1960. The five-band barrel offers enough room on the Cup to engrave 13 winning teams. When all the rings are full, the oldest band (at the top) is removed and preserved at the Hockey Hall of Fame, while a new band is added to the bottom of the Cup. Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded rectangular black clamshell with NHL branded beauty box. 99.9% pure silver. I do leave feedback for everyone.
