This incredible matte proof silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge during the First World War. The design of the coin is based upon the painting by Richard Jack titled The Taking of Vimy Ridge, Easter Monday, 1917. Struck from 10 Troy oz. 9999 fine silver, this extraordinary coin measures 76.25 mm in diameter, and is among a limited mintage of only 750 proofs. The reverse depicts the crew of an 18-pound field gun as they work together in defense against enemy forces on Vimy Ridge. MacKennal’s portrait of King George V adorns the obverse, as struck on Canadian coinage during World War I, surrounded by the inscription “GEORGIVS V DEI: GRA: REX ET IND: IMP:” (George V, King and Emperor of India by the Grace of God).
