This beautiful 1 Oz Silver coin is the second release in the new Geometric Fauna series, dedicated to some of the most fascinating animals designed geometrically. In this edition the Snowy Owls. The coin has a beautiful design, has a great colouration, has a Proof quality and comes in an elegant case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 6.000 pieces worldwide. The reverse of the coin is designed by Canadian artist Claude Thivierge, combines two different art styles for a unique take on an enigmatic avian species. A colourful sunset provides the only hint of warmth in this colour-over-engraved winter scene, where the sky is ablaze with orange and yellow hues. The open field conveys a sense of stillness as the landscape slumbers beneath its snow cover, where engraved relief adds textural details that mimic rolling drifts and mounds. The only sense of movement comes from two enigmatic snowy owls, which are comprised of polygon shapes that define the low poly art style. Suddenly, one of the owls takes flight; flying close to the ground, the owls outstretched wings create the illusion of movement as it seemingly shatters the boundaries of the image and its geometric form, and smoothly transitions from abstract to realism. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: 2018 the year of issue and CANADA the issuing country. On the bottom, the inscription: 20 DOLLARS the face value. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: D·G·REGINA Dei Gratia Regina and ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen. Snowy Owl The snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large, white owl of the typical owl family. Snowy owls are native to Arctic regions in North America and Eurasia. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of black plumage. Juvenile snowy owls have black feathers until they turn white. The snowy owl is a ground nester that predominantly hunts rodents. The snowy owl was one of the many bird species originally described by Linnaeus in the landmark 1758 10th edition of his Systema Naturae, where it was given the binomial name of Strix scandiaca. The genus name Bubo is Latin for the Eurasian eagle-owl and scandiaca is New Latin for Scandinavia. Until recently, the snowy owl was regarded as the sole member of a distinct genus, as Nyctea scandiaca, but mtDNA cytochrome b sequence data Olsen et al. 2002 shows that it is very closely related to the horned owls in the genus Bubo. However, some authorities debate this classification, still preferring Nyctea. The item “SNOWY OWLS Geometric Fauna 1 Oz Silver Coin 20$ Canada 2018″ is in sale since Friday, March 23, 2018.
