The Falcon Lake Incident occurred on May 20, 1967, when Stefan Michalak claimed that he encountered an unidentified flying object near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada. The man claimed to have been burned by the craft’s exhaust vent, which was covered by an ovular grid. Stefan was searching for gold, silver, and other precious metals and gems in Whiteshell Provincial Park when, at about noon, two crafts appeared in the sky, he said, and one landed about 50 meters away from Stefan on a flat rocky area. When he approached the craft, he touched it and the heat melted the fingertips of his heavy gloves. The craft then expelled a cloud of gas and lifted off, knocking Stefan off his feet, setting his shirt aflame, and leaving a distinct pattern of burns on his chest. When doctors examined Michalak in a Winnipeg hospital a few hours later, they noted a dramatic burn pattern all across his chest-exactly like the grid Michalak had described on the UFO’s underside. The coin shows the moment the craft lifted from the rock, with a figure lying on the ground with a hand in the air as if to ward something off. A full application of color re-creates the springtime colors of the place where Michalak saw two objects appear in the midday sky. Based on the witness’s descriptions and sketches, the oval-shaped UFO on the reverse has a steel-like appearance as it hovers above him. Blacklight-activated features complete the story by mimicking the distinctive red glow described by Michalak while adding a yellow hue to the blast of hot air or gas that knocked the amateur prospector on his back and left him with mysterious burn marks. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: “CANADA” – the issuing country, “20 DOLLARS” – the face value, and “2018” – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen and “D · G · REGINA” – Dei Gratia Regina. Why is this coin so popular? We don’t have an exact answer to this question, but we can consider the words of Ian Graham, the International Sales Director of the Royal Canadian Mint, who told us about this coin: The success of this coin is due to the power of the press. The actual story of the UFO encounter was picked? Up by a radio station, then the regular press, then by television. FIRST SHAPED COIN OF ITS KIND TO FEATURE GLOWING ELEMENTS! Your coin is the first shaped coin of its kind to include photo-luminescent elements!
